Hiring American heroes

A solid work ethic, team spirit and integrity strengthen Zurich’s ability to deliver on our strategy. That’s why Zurich values veterans. We invite former service members to explore transferring their unique training, skills and experience to our field.

An employer of choice for veterans

At Zurich, veterans find a supportive community where they can build a promising new career. It starts with a toolkit Zurich created to help our hiring managers better understand how job applicants’ military experience can translate to our business. We’re committed to recognizing talent and providing opportunities. For several years running, Zurich has been named to Military Times’ Best for Vets Employers list.

VETZ: Veterans Engagement Team at Zurich

VETZ, a voluntary Employee Resource Group (ERG), helps veterans connect and thrive at Zurich. More than 150 Zurich employees, including veterans and their supporters, collaborate on VETZ events and initiatives at Zurich offices across the country. The goal is to nurture a diverse, inclusive environment that helps veterans build on their success, share experiences and become thought leaders at Zurich.

Veteran Jobs Mission

Zurich has joined over 230 employers in the Veteran Jobs Mission, whose member companies have hired more than 400,000 veterans since 2011. We encourage Americans who have served in the armed forces to explore new possibilities at Zurich, from office-centered jobs to more mobile positions in the field. Zurich’s veterans have successfully transitioned to careers in Claims, Underwriting, Risk Engineering and more.

Military Spouses

Zurich also encourages military spouses to apply for our many opportunities. We recognize the broad and diverse skill sets that military spouses bring to an organization, and we are a proud participant in the The Department of Defense Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP), which connects military spouses with partner employers who have committed to recruit, hire, promote and retain military spouses.

Words from our veterans

In the military, I led and worked with soldiers who had backgrounds and experiences very different from my own. We had to quickly come together as a team, enabling me to accomplish goals I never imagined. I transitioned my military experiences to my professional life, leading to my work at Zurich promoting equal opportunity in the workplace.

—Latrece Edwards, Head of Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity Compliance, Zurich North America

I was in the Navy out of high school in the Nuclear Propulsion Program. We were expected to speak up, regardless of rank, when something wasn’t right or needed to be changed. Today, I expect the people I work with to take similar initiative. Speaking up—and listening—are keys to our success.

—Jason Meador, Head of RCIS, Zurich North America

My role in an Army tank crew was about building relationships and trust. That experience has helped me accelerate in my career.

—Mike Esqueda, Program Manager, Contingent Workforce, Zurich North America

When a task is assigned in the Navy, you are expected to own it from A to Z. This may include reaching out to other departments for resources and working with senior personnel. This can sometimes be outside your comfort zone, but it taught me skills that have helped me accomplish my mission, including at Zurich.
